Tom Drummond is Heavybit’s Managing Director. He is responsible for the overall management of Heavybit, the fund, and portfolio. As Managing Director, Tom has built Heavybit from an idea into the world’s leading investor for developer tools companies.

Under his leadership, Heavybit has raised over $150m from top-tier institutional investors, and venture capital funds including Accel, Redpoint, and Bessemer Venture Partners, and has backed over 50 companies and 120 founders. Tom has created a portfolio of category-defining companies at Heavybit that has collectively raised over $1B in venture capital financing now valued at more than $10B. Tom has been instrumental to the success of the portfolio both indirectly through the design and delivery of Heavybit's value-added program and directly through his role as advisor and mentor to Heavybit's founders.

Tom has not only grown Heavybit's capital under management and portfolio but is also responsible for building Heavybit's brand and partnership. He established Heavybit as a brand recognized by founders and start-ups around the world and built a team and partnership with deep operational experience and unparalleled domain experience. As Founding Managing Director, he’s been closely involved in every aspect of growing the program from running the educational program to closing companies, managing the portfolio, and raising capital.

Tom began his career in venture capital at Reed Elsevier Ventures, the $250m corporate venture capital fund of a global media and publishing company and a top-decile fund. Tom ran the west-coast office of the UK-based fund and was responsible for sourcing and managing investments. As part of a two-partner team, Tom worked directly on over 35 transactions totaling over $150m in invested capital at stages ranging from Seed to Series C and on deals that included Palantir, RecordedFuture, Babbel, and Healthline.

Previously, Tom worked as a Software Engineer at a London-based technology start-up and Electronic Engineer for the British National Grid. Tom holds a MA and Masters of Engineering and Information Sciences from the University of Cambridge, Clare College.
